Skalka]|| == Emigration == Alois came to the US in May 1886 with his father, step-mother and siblings and settled in Rawlins County, Kansas. == Death == Alois died Dec-1956 and is buried at St. Cyril & Methodius Cem, Rawlins Co, KS. == Obituary == Solemn funeral services for Alois Vap, 83, were held at the St. Cyrill and Methodius Church on December 28, Friday morning at 10 o'clock. The celebrant of the Mass was the Pastor Rev. Jordon S. Hammel, O.F.M. Cap of Sts. Cyrill and Methodius Church. He was ably assisted by the chaplain of St. Thomas Hospital, Colby, Kansas. The subdeacon was Fr. Gene Stehno from the Sacred Heart Parish, Atwood; likewise the master of ceremonies, Tim Senecal was from Atwood. The servers were Steve Heble, Marvin Souchek and Paul Horinek. Alois Vap, son of Frank and Mary Vap was born in Hornich Louckach, Morave, Czechoslovakia on September 1, 1873. He lost his mother when he was eight years old and while still in Czechoslovakia his father remarried. With his parents he came to America on May 16, 1886 and settled north of Atwood. Eight years later Mr. Vaps folks moved to Ponca City, Okla., leaving him on a homestead where he batched for two years. On August 4, 1896 Alois Vap and Antonia Janousek were united in marriage by Father Wend at Herndon, Kansas. This last August they celebrated their diamond anniversary. To this union were born 4 sons and 2 daughters. His chief occupations were farming and cattle raising. Mr. Vap died at the Rawlins Co. Hospital at 2 o'clock on Christmas Day at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mrs. Fanny Malone of Ponca City; Fred Vap, who passed away on December 29, 1936; Frank Vap of Ponca City, who passed away May 8, 1938; sons, Jim Vap, who passed away Nov. 8, 1938, and Charles Vap in October 14, 1935. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Antonia; four children, Frank of Atwood; Joe L. Vap of Ludell; Mary (Mrs. Frank Bartosovsky) of Stratton, Nebr. and Alice (Mrs. Louis Skalka) of Deweese, Nebr. Also five grandsons and four grand-daughters. His brother, Joe Vap at Apache, Okla. and sister, Mary Cloe at St. Francis, Kans. He has three half-sisters and one-half brother, Mrs. Joe Pettera and Mrs. Frank Pitner of Herndon, Kans.; Mrs. Method Kvasnica of Verndon, Okla., and Enoch Vap of Nervkirk, Okla. and many neices and nephews. The casket bearers were his grandsons: Roman Skalka, Robert Vap, Charles Vap, Daniel Vap, Alfred Vap and George Mazour. Honorary bearers were: Joseph Horinek, Joseph Prochazka, John Prochazka, R.E. Horinek, Lon Nickols and Joe Yager. The interment was in the St. Cyrill and Methodius Cemetery. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Mr. Louis Skalka and son, Roman; Joe Skalka, Bernard Skalka and Bill Chvala of Deweese, Nebr.; Mr. Enoch Vap and son, Alvin, of Newkirk, Okla.; Mrs. Frank Glaser, Mrs. John Gower and Frank L. Vap of Ponca City; Mrs. Agnes Vap and Robert of Apache, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Proskovec and Joe, Jr. of Bruno, Nebr. Mrs George Kuber and sons of Prague, Nebraska. CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our appreciation to the sisters, nurses and nurse aids of the Rawlins Co. Hospital, also to Dr. Henneberger, Carleen Vap and Tillie Henningsen and all our friends and relatives for all their many deeds of kindness expressed to us during the long illness and passing of our husband and father.
