John Skalka and Josefina Sedlak came to Clay/Nuckolls County Nebraska in the 1870s with their 2 younger children, Florian and Mary (future Mrs. James Heble). John died soon after they arrived in 1878. The oldest child Frank Skalka was in the military in Moravia and joined his mother & siblings in 1884.
After Mary Skalka married James Heble, they moved to Rawlins County (in the late 1880s). Florian Skalka married Rosa Pesek in 1887 and also moved to Rawlins County. Frank Skalka married Mary Vap (oldest child of Ignac Vap) and remained in the Deweese NE area. Frank & Mary Skalka remained good friends with their cousin Fred Vap after Fred moved to Rawlins County. Florian Skalka donated the land for Sts. Cyril & Methodius church in Rawlins County. He and his family moved back to Deweese area in the early 1890s.
