Birth
Ezra Dexter Carlton was born in Weld, Franklin Co, Maine in 1835. Ezra was one of a set of twins. He and his twin sister were named after their parents.
Early years
In 1840, they lived in western NY state. Perhaps this is where they first met the Washburn family? The family appears to have moved back to Maine because Ezra Dexter's father died in 1848 in Maine. About 1854, Ezra Dexter and many of his siblings moved to Dekalb Co, Illinois.

Military
Ezra enlisted in the military in 1862. He and his brother David entered as privates in Company K, 105th Infantry Regiment Illinois. He later received a disability discharge.
Death
Ezra Dexter Carlton died in 1908 in Buckeye, Maricopa Co, Arizona.
